Listen to Silence, it has so much to say.
Rumi
Today, let’s quickly talk about silence. The silence I am referring to is devoid of any action, both internal and external. We all understand external action, but internal action is something that we often ignore. This wheel of thoughts slowly chugs along without our awareness. Chattering constantly, the mind swings between the past & the future usually falsely identifying everything as present. When you abide in silence, neither the past nor the future become relevant. As you progress in silence, you will identify a gap between each thought.
One simple technique to start practising silence is to set aside a time every day and watch the thoughts that arise. As the thought appears, start classifying it as either past or present. Label them clearly as they appear. Once the labelling becomes automatic, you will slowly see them disappear, and as they disappear, silence will be instilled in your being.
Silence - My eternal daily prayer to the Universe.
